Ingredients
For the Meatballs:
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork)
- 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 small yellow onion, finely grated
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 tsp ground allspice
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 2 tbsp butter, for frying
For the Sauce:
- 3 tbsp butter
- 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and white pepper to taste
- 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
Prepare the Meatballs:
- In a large bowl, combine breadcrumbs and milk. Let sit for 5 minutes.
- Add grated onion, egg, allspice, nutmeg, salt, pepper, and ground meat. Mix with hands just until combined.
- Form mixture into small, 1-inch meatballs.
Cook the Meatballs:
- In a large skillet over medium heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter.
- Working in batches, cook meatballs until browned on all sides and cooked through (8-10 minutes). Remove and set aside.
Make the Sauce:
- In same skillet, melt 3 tablespoons of butter. Whisk in flour and cook for 1 minute until golden.
- Gradually whisk in beef broth until smooth. Simmer until thickened.
- Stir in heavy cream and Worcestershire sauce. Season to taste.
Combine and Serve:
- Return meatballs to skillet and simmer in sauce for 2-3 minutes.
- Garnish with fresh parsley and serve over mashed potatoes or egg noodles.
