Ingredients
- 1.5 lbs (680g) ground beef
- 1 large yellow onion, diced
- 2 (15 oz) cans kidney beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
- 3 tbsp chili powder blend
- 2 tbsp cooking oil
- 1 tsp sea salt (plus more to taste)
- ½ tsp black pepper
Instructions
- Prep Ingredients:
Dice onion and drain beans. Measure all ingredients. - Brown Beef & Onions:
Heat oil in heavy pot over medium-high. Add beef and onion. Cook 5-7 minutes until beef is browned and onions are soft. Drain excess fat if needed. - Add Spices:
Stir in chili powder, salt, and pepper. Cook 1 minute until fragrant. - Combine & Simmer:
Add beans and crushed tomatoes. Bring to boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover partially and simmer 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. - Adjust & Serve:
Taste and add more salt if needed. For thicker chili, simmer uncovered 5 extra minutes. Serve hot.
