5-Ingredient Chili

Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs (680g) ground beef
  • 1 large yellow onion, diced
  • 2 (15 oz) cans kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
  • 3 tbsp chili powder blend
  • 2 tbsp cooking oil
  • 1 tsp sea salt (plus more to taste)
  • ½ tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. Prep Ingredients:
    Dice onion and drain beans. Measure all ingredients.
  2. Brown Beef & Onions:
    Heat oil in heavy pot over medium-high. Add beef and onion. Cook 5-7 minutes until beef is browned and onions are soft. Drain excess fat if needed.
  3. Add Spices:
    Stir in chili powder, salt, and pepper. Cook 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Combine & Simmer:
    Add beans and crushed tomatoes. Bring to boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover partially and simmer 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Adjust & Serve:
    Taste and add more salt if needed. For thicker chili, simmer uncovered 5 extra minutes. Serve hot.
